When asked about it...Hodgson said it was good to have options...the midfield England has is pretty settled...always good to have options...mentioned Drinkwater THREE times as a possible...

The team is full of cnuts we love to hate the rest of the time, managed by a dopey crusty old bastard who should've been put out to pasture long since.

Comma - I may not have the exact answer now. The point is hodgson will always revert to type so as others have said vardy will be on the bench at best when his pace could be key. We could try and replicate the Leicester style to unsettle better teams. We have no English mahrez so perhaps Rooney will still play but behind a main striker. Walcott coming back to form would be a bonus and we have plenty of midfield battlers - Barkley/drinkwater and yes even noble. Stones and smalling are a pairing worth trying at centre back and we should focus on full backs who can defend.
Unfortunately I can see him starting with people like Henderson/Cahill/wellbeck/Milner/sterling/

Face et al, what I'm getting at is that despite the criticism of Hodgson most people come up with starting elevens much the same as his. You make the case when referring to sum of all the parts etc.

Comma - Fitness isn't the main issue though?
Greaves was fit for the WC semi final onwards, but had he played it may well have been a different result for England.
It's not just about picking a player you rate either, but how the sum of all the parts create a team - which is what we suffered from through the so called 'golden generation', trying to piece together big reps that don't really fit.
I could pick a fantasy side but it would be pointless without it being given a chance in reality. I will pick a team at the time though if you want to judge, but it won't be ever possibly to prove better than what is chosen.
